The Swell Season | For those of you drinking wine on the patio this weekend
The Swell Season is one of those groups that just has a “feel” to their sound that hits you in the heart. I never saw the movie “Once” which I guess was loosely based on the relationship between Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglov, the front man/woman of The Swell Season. However, I did listen to the soundtrack of that movie many times over. The music is so emotional that I guess I never needed to see the movie because it played out in my mind through the music.
Below is Low Rising, off of the upcoming new album as well as my favorite from the “Once” soundtrack, Falling Slowly. I suggest sitting on your patio, opening a bottle of Pinot from Willamette Valley Oregon and hit repeat on these two. It helps if you have your signiffy other or box of tissues (if your lonely) with you while you listen.

2 weeks with no posts??? I suck and I promise to make it up to you.
So I have been a little side tracked lately. I NEED HELP WITH THIS!!!!
If you are interested in contributing to this blog, please let me know. I originally hoped that this would be a social platform to share great music. If you can post one song a week, it would be tremendous!!! It’s as easy as painting by numbers.
That being said. Here are a few gems that I have been slacking on. I will let the music speak for itself….
Listen: Passion Pit – Better Things
Listen: The Black Angles – Doves

The Meters | Old School Funk doesn’t get much better than this.
You thought the Beastie Boys and Jamiroquai were Funky?? Check out The Meters. Pure uncut funkalicious funktastic flow.
You will always remember the weekend of September 12th as the “Funk the Weekend” weekend after you listen to these cuts. (Did that make sense?? I’m funked up)

Empire of the Sun – Walking On a Dream | If MGMT and Phoenix had a baby….
I love music that fits into life. What I mean is, you can listen to it in different setting or while in different moods. Walking On a Dream by Empire of the Sun is exactly that sort of cut. I have already chilled to it while making dinner, getting ready to hit “da club”, working out, doing laundry and drinking pina coladas by the pool. OK, seriously, I have only listened to it while making dinner, but you will see what I mean when you listen to it.
PS – I included a great remix by Van She.

Deerhunter | Interpol meets Sonic Youth meets Smashing Pumpkins or 2009 Indie Brilliance
I am going to keep this one short. Amazing cut by Deerhunter. So many memories of music come rushing through my ears when I listen to this track. It is like listening to something from 1992 mixed with something from 2001 and 2010. I hope that makes sense.
This cut really hits around the 4:40 mark which is just when you want more. Too bad it ends just as I want more… or maybe that is whats great about it. I wonder if they actually hunt?

As Summer Winds Down…
As summer winds down (everywhere but here in Arizona) I’m savoring the number of pool days left. A few more backyard BBQ parties are certainly in order before we start the ridiculously long holiday season. So here are a few songs to add to your pool party mix. Get out your blenders and mix up some margaritas, throw some Coronas on ice and don’t forget the sunblock.
