Q-tip | Kills it with or without his Tribe
Q-tip is a legend…………………….. um, I am at a loss for words………… Boom! Done!
(I am ending the post early so I can listen to more Q-tip. You should also stop whatever you’re doing and listen…)
Below are 3 lesser known Q-tip jams that shouldn’t be. Can you believe they stretch 17 years!! Like I said…. Kills It!

Revisit: The Amazing | Still amazing as ever
With the proliferation of folk music these days, I don’t see why The Amazing is not getting big run. Maybe it’s because if you google “the amazing” you get lost in a myriad of links related to some lame reality show and if you google “the amazing band” not much better. For God’s sake, you can’t even find them on an iTunes search with their horrible new UI…. uhhhhh!!!!! (even though they are there)
Below are my listening suggestions:
- Start with Is It Likely and a glass of wine (or scotch in my case). The last 2 minutes is a serious jam session.
- Move on to Dragon and light a cigarette. Sit back and chillz. Wine refill.
- Next is Romanian. Sit even further back and close your eyes for 7 minutes.
- Open your eyes for The Strangest Thing and pour another glass of wine.
- Finally reminisce in your mind about the ones you love to Beach House and drunk dial your Fave 5.

Van Morrison – T.B. Sheets | Raw and Bluesy, Cold and Real, Funky as Hell!
Van Morrison at his best. Off of the New York Sessions ‘67 album. The entire album is well worth the price of addmission, but T.B. Sheets stands out. Over 9 minutes of Van slanging smooth funk and soul. The first time I heard it, I listed to it 4 times in a row. A half hour well spent in my opinion.
Note: This is a lower quality file as to cut the file size down. Buy the full cut in all of its glory here, http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/new-york-sessions-67/id183330860
Roky Erickson & The Aliens | Happy Friday the 13th
Roky Erickson, the man the myth the legend, just fits so well with Friday the 13th for some reason. Dude is and was a true bad ass rocker!!! Props to Roky.

Rolling Stones – Moonlight Mile | One you don’t hear everyday (or ever) but soooo good
I love hidden gems when it comes to music. I would have to say Moonlight Mile by the Stones is 10 karat ice! The folksy feel reminds me of Van Morrison but would feel just as comfortable on a 2009 hipster indie folk album. The strings pull the mood together along with piano rain drops and guitar string shooting stars. OK that was cheesy, but this is an exceptionally hippie Stones cut if there is such a thing.
Thank You

The XX pimps Florence + the Machine | One X short of headphone p0rn
I will admit I am not a huge fan of Florence + the Machine. I think the bucket is overflowing when it comes to euro indie pop females. No disrespect, iPod commercials have finally ruined the genre for me. I digress…
I am in love with The XX and their ability to create exciting electro sounds that hit hard while still being totally chill. They took You’ve Got the Love by Florence + the Machine and created pure ear ecstasy. TURN UP THE BASS and make sure your pictures are secured properly to the walls.
I have also included Basic Space by The XX. Another excellently structured electro chill cut that is one X short of headphone p0rn. Totally rad stuff by this London duo. Hope you like!

Kickin’ it off old school – Daniel Tashian for my first post
Hopefully my first of many posts here, I thought I’d start with an oldie from 1996 that I had on one of my first mix CD’s titled “Hidden Gems”. This song is from his great (and only) solo CD “Sweetie”. Full of great pop rock songs like this one here – “My Hometown”. T Bone Burnett produced the disc, and this track includes great lead guitar sound. Daniel comes from some musical royalty, his parents being Barry and Holly Tashian, well known on the indie folk/songwriter front for many years. Daniel has had several bands since, including The Bees US and Silver Seas. But his old solo disc is still my favorite. Enjoy!
