Geographer :: Kites – Music that makes you feel cool….
There are some songs I hear and immediately a smile comes on my face and I think to myself…. “this is music for cool people”…. then I say…… “does that mean I’m ….?”………… well at least when I listen to it I am cool in my own mind for that moment. I love that music can do that to you!!!!! Songs like Kites make me love music.
Geographer was somehow lost in the mix of bands like Passion Pit, Yeasayer and xx who are all brilliant. I say they belong in the mix. Either way… I am thrilled I found the Animal Shapes – EP.
This weekend must do: Put your Gucci sunglasses on, roll down your windows while you drive around in the Spring sunshine blasting Geographer – Kites!!! Now you’re soooooo cooooool.

The XX pimps Florence + the Machine | One X short of headphone p0rn
I will admit I am not a huge fan of Florence + the Machine. I think the bucket is overflowing when it comes to euro indie pop females. No disrespect, iPod commercials have finally ruined the genre for me. I digress…
I am in love with The XX and their ability to create exciting electro sounds that hit hard while still being totally chill. They took You’ve Got the Love by Florence + the Machine and created pure ear ecstasy. TURN UP THE BASS and make sure your pictures are secured properly to the walls.
I have also included Basic Space by The XX. Another excellently structured electro chill cut that is one X short of headphone p0rn. Totally rad stuff by this London duo. Hope you like!

The Golden Filter – Thunderbird | Be prepared to dance!
If a song makes my 3 year old son burst into kung-foo inspired rave dancing (minus glow sticks) I know its good shit!
What I love about The Golder Filter is that you can actually hear a “live band” performing the music in your mind. It has just enough texture to convince you that they dropped each track in a studio rather than contriving it on an MacBook Pro.
OK… are you with me???? I am going to get deep on your ass with this one. See if you can follow along and if your head explodes, it’s not my fault.
In my opinion, the 2:40 mark of Thunderbird concludes what just was a synthesizer homage to Pink Floyd. What ensued previous to the 2:40 minute mark was an almost note by note inspiration of the synthesizer solo on Pink Floyd’s song Have a Cigar from the Wish You Were Here album.
The best part is, the a fore mentioned Pink Floyd synthesizer solo from Have a Cigar ends at exactly the 4:20 minute mark. I am not a consipiracy theorist… but come on… 4:20????? Sick!!!

Ladyhawke and CSS | A great way to get you going on a Monday
Ladyhawke’s self titled album came out in late 2008 to great response in the UK and she was one of the first of the new “UK Pop Girls” as I like to call them. The genre includes CSS, Little Boots, La Roux and Mpho. If you haven’t plugged into this phenomena, I suggest highly that you do.
What I love most about these ladies of the “new” “new wave” is that they write and perform most of their music. All, including Ladyhawke, are accomplished musicians who play keyboard, guitar and drums. As opposed to Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. The worst part is I totally agreed with Kanye. Although I HATE both Kanye and Taylor.
I digress…. I hope you enjoy my ladies… Ladyhawke and CSS.

Empire of the Sun – Walking On a Dream | If MGMT and Phoenix had a baby….
I love music that fits into life. What I mean is, you can listen to it in different setting or while in different moods. Walking On a Dream by Empire of the Sun is exactly that sort of cut. I have already chilled to it while making dinner, getting ready to hit “da club”, working out, doing laundry and drinking pina coladas by the pool. OK, seriously, I have only listened to it while making dinner, but you will see what I mean when you listen to it.
